Critic upon critic has raved about the 2007 Mercedes-Benz CL550
coupe. One critic in particular, found the CL550 to be the perfect
balance of opulence and exhilaration. That critic is Warren Brown,
of the Washington Post.
In his recent article on the CL550, “Quicksilver for Golden Agers,”
Mr. Brown professes that, “Poverty and youth are overrated.” At least,
those are his thoughts after having spent a week driving the CL550.
And they weren’t his only thoughts. Not by a long shot. Here are just
a few more of Mr. Brown’s ruminations on the CL550:
“The car is amazingly smooth and stable in sharp turns and wonderfully
stable in emergency driving maneuvers.”
“…it handles marvelously, thanks to an array of computerized suspension
technologies, including a system Mercedes-Benz calls ‘active body
roll.’”
“…unlike many high-performance cars, the CL550 is library quiet,
eschewing boisterously macho exhaust notes in favor of urbanity
and civility.”
“You can drive this one hard or just take it for a gentle cruise.
It does not matter. It pampers your body, puts your physical comfort
and safety first.”
“…the CL550 presents an elegant compromise—a 382-horsepower, V-8,
rear-wheel-drive, high-performance car that can run with the world's
fastest automobiles,”
These words from a man who knows automobiles. Still, the best way to experience
all the CL550 has to offer…is to drive it.
